Jump-Out’s from Sermon Notebook #4

The following notes (in verbatim, captured in below) jumped out at me while I was re-reading Notebook #4 <10/28/2018-10/30/2022> which I finished just this past Sunday.  Looking back, I believe I grew the most, spiritually speaking, during these four years.  Outwardly speaking, things weren’t that great during these four years – Covid, living alone (well, with my immediate family), in a new country, and question & exclamation marks everywhere on my career – but precisely because outwardly things weren’t that great, lots of room for inward growth existed.  That’s amazing grace in hindsight and I am sure many of my readers exactly or sort of understand what I’m describing.  Anyways, here they are… so many jump-out’s from Book 4:

• Set worldly agendas & goals but carry them out as a Christian. (세상적인 일정과 목적을 세우되 기독교인처럼 이뤄내라.)

• Be the 1^st hour worker – no complaining or arguing. (첫째시간의 일꾼처럼 되라 – 불평이나 논의하지 말고.)

• 내가 이것에 대해 어떻게 생각하는 것 보다 이곳은 어떤 사람에게 맞을까? (Instead of asking what you think of this place, ask yourself who would be a good fit here.)

• 나 혼자 타면 반 배이다, real Christian life fills others. (It’s a half-boat if I am the only passenger, 진정한 기독교인은 다른 사람들의 삶을 채운다.)

• 기독교는 지식을 추구하는 종교가 아니다. (Christianity isn’t a religion aimed at gaining knowledge.)

• 심판 = 회복, 같은 얘기다 (Judgment = Restoration, same story.)

• 복의 본질은 하나님을 만나는 것이다. (Centrality of blessing is meeting God.)

• Story —> Principle —> Invitation. (이야기 —> 원리 —> 초대.)

• 목마름이 없으면 그냥 종교행위이다. (If no real thirst, then it’s just act of religion.)

• 결과를 사명으로 주시지 않고 역할을 사명으로 주신다. (God does not give us an outcome as our mission but the role as our mission.)

• 하나님의 일이 이뤄지게 기도하라. (Pray for God’ will to be done.)

• 이기려면 먹이를 주지 말아야 한다, 유혹도 그렇다. (If you want to win, don’t feed it. It’s the same with temptations.)

• 주님이 원하시는 사람은 모든 것을 다하는 사람이 아니라 주님이 주신 것을 잘해내는 것, 하나님이 주신일을 잘하고 만족하는. (Who the Lord wants isn’t someone that does everything but one that does well what’s been tasked and is content with.)

• 내가 신앙인이지 아닌지는 가족이 가장 먼저 안다. (It’s very obvious to my family on whether I am a real and practicing person of religion or not.)

• 흩어져 있는 백성을 데리고 오는 사람이 되라. (Be a person that brings my people back together.)
